Dr Robert William Magill Strain was born on 12 April 1907 at 3 University Square, Belfast. His father was David Strain, manager of the Ulster Bank in Donegall Place, and his mother was Helen Louise Magill in 1906. RECENTLY IN the Autograph Letters Collection of the Wellcome Institute of the History of Medicine there were found six letters written by Cardinal Newman to a Dr. Ogle. The aquatic insect collection of the late Dr. W. Joost contained two new species of Thaumaleidae (Diptera) from the Caucasus Mountains: Thaumalea monikae sp. n. and Thaumalea biacuminata sp. n.
